Simple home tricks you can use to keep away flies and mosquitoes from your home.
They usually make an appearance especially during the night, which is when they leave their hiding place to look for their victims. With the help of their sensors, they detect our body odor and, above all, carbon dioxide.
For more cleaning habits that we maintain daily, insects will always look for ways to inhabit many of the corners of the house.
While most are harmless and not even perceived, there are some that are unpleasant and cause us problems in areas such as the kitchen or the garden.
Even though the market is full of repellents, natural home remedies to avoid mosquitos are always one of the best ways to keep them away from our skin and out of our homes.
Taking into account the properties of some natural ingredients, we can make homemade repellents to prevent insects from invading our spaces. Let's find out how:
1. Coconut oil and citronella
Pouring 30 drops of citronella essence into 250 grams of coconut oil makes it a highly effective natural repellent. Mix everything well and place it in a jar in the center area of the room.
2. Apple cider vinegar
The acids that contain the vinegar and its penetrating smell are very unpleasant for the pests that invade the house. This does not exterminate them, but it does prevent them from entering areas like the kitchen or the rooms.
Mix 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar with 1/2 cup of water and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the product through all the entry points that the insects may have.
Bay leaves are good options to ward off those annoying flies that fly in the kitchen or dining room.
Crush some leaves in a dish and put them in various parts of the home.
You can also make a homemade sprayer to apply directly on the insect, to make this, mix 20 drops of laurel essential oil with 1/4 cup of water and spray it using a spray bottle.
4. Citrus fruits
Most insects do not support the smell and properties of citrus, so they are a great option to keep them away.
Instead of throwing the shells in the trash, chop them into small pieces and put them on the paths they have inside of your house or garden.
5. Aromatic herbs
Aromatic herbs contain natural substances that effectively repel a large number of insects, including flies and mosquitoes. Combine a little dried mint, clove, eucalyptus, and basil in a cloth pouch and keep it with you when you go outdoors.
6. Use citronella candles
The citronella candles are a good solution to scare off mosquitoes since when lit, the smell is released that is very unpleasant for mosquitoes and keeps them away.
7. Lemon and cloves
This home remedy against mosquitoes is one of the most effective. Try placing half a lemon with a few cloves pricked on the window of the room where you are going to sleep to completely forget about these insects.
You can also add a baby shampoo to this mixture and then apply the paste you get through your skin.
Did you know that the sulfur in garlic repels mosquitoes, flies, ticks, and fleas? Peel and cut several cloves of garlic and put them in a bowl with a little water. Leave to macerate a few hours and then use this water to spray the house.
Why do mosquitoes mostly bite only me?
Although mosquitoes do not have a good eyesight, they do have a good smell. They are guided by the smell of carbon dioxide that is emitted when breathing: the more amount of carbon dioxide and other substances such as the one that is emitted when sweating (lactic acid), more chances of them stinging.
