Why you feel sleepy after coffee - Homies Hacks
If you are not much different from most guys, a morning cup of coffee shakes off the remnants of sleep with you.

We all know perfectly well that coffee helps to stimulate the nervous system and thus provides the often needed kick. High-quality, untreated organic coffee can even be a source of healthy antioxidants.

However, some people complain that they allegedly start to fall asleep after having this drink. But why?

1. Drinking too much coffee will dehydrate you
The more coffee you drink, the more you will urinate, which dehydrates you. The increased frequency of urination reduces the water in your circulation. And decreased water in the circulation slowly reduces the energy flow of your body and you will feel even more tired than before.

So, drinking coffee to stay alert and awake creates a vicious circle that's very hard to break.

2. Sudden change
Drowsiness can be associated with the amount of drink consumed. Suppose, every day you drink 2-3 cups of coffee and suddenly decide to take a little respite, drinking no more than one cup of the drink. In this case, your body, which is already accustomed to a certain portion of caffeine, will simply miss it, which will make you feel tired and exhausted. Over time, it passes.

3. Effect on nervous system
A large amount of coffee does not encourage the nervous system but depresses it. Drinking more and more coffee depletes the nervous system and the nerves become numb to the effects of caffeine. During this phase, you will not get that energy boost, instead, you will feel more tired and sleepy.

Strangely enough, but this fact was even based on the treatment of insomnia so, in order to make a person fell asleep, he was asked to drink a few cups of coffee. And, surprisingly, it worked, though not in all cases.

4. Adenosine makes you sleepy when the effect of caffeine wears off
The caffeine in the coffee blocks adenosine receptors in your brain from receiving adenosine, which is a neurotransmitter that causes fatigue. Although caffeine prevents your brain from absorbing adenosine, it does not prevent your body from producing the neurotransmitter. So there is an accumulation of adenosine when the caffeine subsides, which will make you feel sleepy.

5. Effect of sugar in coffee
Sugar is processed much faster than coffee. Drinking coffee drinks that are high in sugar but low in caffeine can actually cause a rush of sugar and a crash, more than just a caffeine burst. So, it will be a good idea for you to avoid sugar in coffee.

Remember coffee is not an energy supplier
The caffeine contained in coffee does not provide the body with sustainable energy. So by consuming coffee, you're only delaying sleep artificially.

For many people, the delicious black hot drink is much more than just a stimulant. So you should first think about your relationship with coffee. Do you sometimes enjoy a coffee because it tastes good and because you appreciate the coffee culture or do you only drink coffee to keep you awake? If you need the caffeine to stay awake and productive, or your consumption keeps rising to maintain your energy levels, you should definitely try to drink less coffee.

Some people follow a "coffee rhythm" of 2: 3. This means that you drink coffee for two days and you do not consume caffeine on the three days that follow. This rhythm gives your body the chance to completely break down the caffeine.

The reason why coffee makes us sleepy rather than awake is changing our view of coffee. Therefore, I would like to give you some tips on how you can stay active without coffee.
  • Spray cold water on your face and wrists
  • Drink a glass of ice-cold water
  • Distract yourself by talking to neighbours or friends
  • Spending time on any social networking site
  • Relax for a short time
These all tips are though very basic but can be more helpful in keeping you more alert than your normal intake of caffeine.

Above all, a healthy lifestyle is a key to the problem!
