Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) can really stress the mind. Every day new cases emerge, and people are struck by feelings of anxiety towards the outside world, especially those who are already living with conditions of mental/stress problems such as anxiety, and OCD.

So how can we protect our mental health? Because we have to as mental health is directly connected with our physical health, and the relationship we have with other people.

Here are some ways to improve mental health.

Accept The Situation

Under these conditions, feeling sad, depressed, and confused is a natural thing. However, if you continue to think that since its happening all over the world so, you could too be affected by it, may have an adverse effect on your mental health.

Instead, accepting the situation and facing it is a good first step for your mental health. We really need to face it with calm and not get panic. Because, excessive stress and worry will affect mental health, which in turn will affect physical health.

Stay Active

The second way to maintain mental health is that you have to be active in managing your stress level. You can try to discipline your own mental health rules. For e.g. doing meditation, a little exercise at home. You don't even need the equipment for doing exercise, just by doing simple push-ups/pull-ups/squats or even climbing through stairs can do the trick.

Staying active does not necessarily mean just doing exercise, it also includes activities that can increase your heart rate, such as gardening, cleaning, cycling, etc.

It's a known fact that keeping yourself active in such a way helps to prevent and manage mild to moderate depression or anxiety effectively.

Take A Break From Corona News

Divert yourself from any news about the coronavirus for a while. Instead of reading or watching the news about this virus outbreak too often, it'll be better to spend only a small portion of your time to remain in sync with the latest situations and conditions.

Some news channels have a habit of sharing simple news in such a way as if they are running some daily soap serials. People also get stuck to them unknowingly and then by the day end develop a feeling of fear. Not only does this waste your time but is also not a good habit.

Instead, just read or listen to the headlines in way that you are well versed with the latest news, and then spend the rest of your time in a productive way i.e. taking your mindset away from this pandemic.

Nutrition Is Important

It is well known that a healthy diet has a positive effect on physical health. So what we eat can affect our feelings in the long run. Our brain and cognitive functions also benefit from a balanced diet.

Having a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and low processed foods keep your body healthy. The advantages are an increased ability to concentrate and remember as well as an increased mental performance.

On the other hand, consuming too much saturated fat and sugar has negative effects on our mental health and mood. When you are busy or stressed, try to reduce your caffeine intake. Instead, replace caffeine with fruits or snacks such as nuts.
